PhD scholarship on computer vision and machine learning

The machine learning group at the University of Potsdam invites applications for a PhD scholarship on computer vision and machine learning.

The scholarship is funded by a cooperation between the University of Potsdam and STRATO AG that focuses on tagging of, and intelligent navigation in, libraries of photo and video data. Applicants are expected to hold a Master's degree (or an equivalent degree) in computer science, and to have some level of experience in computer vision and machine learning.

The machine learning group offers an outstanding working environment; our department is located in beautiful Potsdam-Babelsberg. The center of Berlin can be reached by public transport in 25 minutes.

Web-Programmer/ Product Developer (graduate or student) (Heidelberg/Mannheim)

Young start-up team in social media is urgently looking for a Web-Programmer/ Product Developer (graduate or student) in the Heidelberg-Mannheim area to join our team. You will assist with the development of an innovative online social network. The Project will be developed in cooperation with different Institutes and the University of Mannheim.

After a short trial period, we offer you a project-based pay and the possibility to join as a firm partner.

Time required: about 15-20 hours a week (depends on your productivity) with a completely flexible schedule (you decide when you want to put in your hours, what counts are only the results).

Successful studies in the fields of the computer science or ”Wirtschaftsinformatik” (Uni, FH, BA) or equivalent (ideally with a completed degree; Project experience in Java/ Ruby and PHP as well as in the development and operation of distributed systems; Extensive knowledge of current web technologies (eg. JavaScript, CSS, Drupal 7); (ideally) interest in long-term cooperation and geographic flexibility.

Postdoctoral research scientist (Universitätsklinikum Essen)

The University Hospital Essen is one of the largest leading hospitals in the Ruhr Metropolis with more than 5.500 employees. It is comprised of 54 clinics, institutes and divisions and is involved in the treatment of 180.000 patients per year. In addition, research and teaching at the Medical Faculty of the University Hospital is conducted in a highly competitive and internationally oriented environment.

A postdoctoral research scientist position is available in the newly inaugurated research group at the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism

Salary is according to the German pay scale 13 TV-L / 100%.

The post is available from 01.11.2011 and is open for 3 years, in the first period.

Requirements are a successfully completed Ph.D. thesis in molecular biology, cell biology or biochemistry, publications in high ranking journals and profound experience in molecular biology techniques and interest in basic science. Expertise in work with animal models is an advantage.

The postdoctoral fellow will be engaged in innovative research projects focusing on the molecular pathogenesis of endocrine tumours. In particular the focus will be on the analysis of signalling pathways using OMICS methodology, investigation of molecular mechanism of cell differentiation in endocrine tissues and identification and evaluation of biomarkers in the preclinical setting.

You will join a dynamic and collaborative research team and have the option to lead your own research projects and to establish yourself as an independent researcher. The Habilitation (the highest academic qualification a scholar can achieve by independent pursuit) is possible in Internal Medicine.

Extracurricular professional attachments have to comply with the legal parameters laid down by the Hochschulnebentätigkeitsverordnung of North Rhine-Westphalia.
