PhD Students ,Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Biomedicine,Germany

The Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Biomedicine and the Center for Molecular Biology of Inflammation has openings for several

PhD Students

(position-code 04-2011)

to investigate the cellular mechanisms regulating blood vessel formation (Dr. Arndt Siekmann, MPI) in developing zebrafish.

The group of Dr. Arndt Siekmann studies the signaling pathways important during endothelial cell differentiation and angiogenic growth of the vasculature. An additional interest lies in the guidance cues that play a role in endothelial cell migration. Possible projects involve studying blood vessel formation during regeneration of the zebrafish fins and the analysis of genes regulated by changes in blood flow. Technical approaches include genetic studies, involving the use of zinc finger nucleases to introduce mutagenic lesions, confocal and time-lapse microscopy, immunohistochemistry, cell transplantation studies, molecular biology and bioinformatics.

We invite applications by enthusiastic, committed and highly talented PhD students who wish to join my laboratory. Stipends are provided for up to three years. The institutes offer a very international environment with English being the language spoken in the laboratories. Please include a letter of motivation (up to one page) describing why you would like to pursue a PhD in my laboratory with your application. Only applications containing such a letter of motivation will be considered.

The Max-Planck-Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.

Please send your application (with the position-code 04-2011), letter of motivation and CV and the names of 2 referees via email to:
