PhD Studentship in DNA Nanotechnology , Stockholm, SwedenPhD Studentship in DNA Nanotechnology ,Stockholm, Sweden

We are interested in building molecular tools out of DNA and in developing
new ways of building self-assembled nanoscale object using DNA and other
bio-molecules. Further, we would like to explore the use of these kinds of devices for therapeutic and/or diagnostic applications. Our work involves the use of computer aided design and programming to calculate DNA sequences to be ordered or produced, followed by microbiology lab work to produce DNA and to fold the DNA into desired structures. Electron microscopy is used to study the structures once formed.

We are looking for a PhD student who is interested in developing next generation DNA nanodevices for medical applications. Successful applicants will either have a background within medicine or bioscience with an interest in computer science and nanotech, or a person with a physical science or computer science background with a strong interest to work with biology. The lab will provide opportunity for creative persons to strongly influence the direction of his/hers projects and we are looking for persons that can contribute with their own ideas and proposals. We are interested in individuals that are highly motivated and can interact with the rest of the center. Proficiency in oral and written English is required.

The successful applicant will enter a 5-month research preparatory course prior to admission to the 4-year long PhD program. The lab is situated within the Swedish Medical Nanoscience Center (www.medicalnanoscience.se) at the Department of Neuroscience. Information about the PhD studies, admission requirement and admission rules can be found at www.tinyurl.com/karolinskaphd Information about our lab can be found at: www.hogberglab.net
