The DFG Research Training Group 1727 (GRK 1727) “Modulation of Autoimmunity” seeks to recruit 13 graduate students (biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and medicine)
The newly established DFG Research Training Group “Modulation of Autoimmunity” (GRK1727, Spokesperson: Prof. Detlef Zillikens) seeks to employ 13 graduate students from the areas of biology, biochemistry, chemistry and medicine.
While the incidence of autoimmune diseases is increasing, general immunosuppression is still the mainstay of therapy. This is associated with a significant morbidity and mortality. Therefore, the major goal of GRK1727 is the identification and evaluation of novel therapeutic targets and strategies for autoimmune diseases. The principle investigators involved are from the Institutes of Immunology, Chemistry, Anatomy, Systemic Inflammation Research and Medical Microbiology as well as from the Clinical Departments of Rheumatology and Dermatology at the University of Lübeck and the Research Center Borstel.
We are seeking to recruit candidates with a strong interest in translational immunological research. Preference will be given to candidates experienced in experimental disease models. The University of Lübeck is an equal opportunities employer. Applications from female candidates are strongly encouraged. In case of compatible qualifications, preference will be given to people with disabilities.
Detailed information on individual projects and participating principal investigators will be available from Prof. Ralf Ludwig (ralf.ludwig@uk-sh.de). In addition to their project-related work, students of the GRK1727 will benefit from a structured qualification and mentoring program. Salaries are according to E13 1/2 positions (TV-L) for a maximum of 3 years. After successful completion of the program and depending on the initial degree of the student, the following degrees can be awarded by the University of Lübeck: Dr. rer. nat., Dr. hum. biol., and Dr. med.. The prerequisite for entering the program is either a master or diploma degree.
Applications including CV, certificates, and letters of recommendation from 2 previous mentors should be sent in PDF format to Prof. Ralf Ludwig (ralf.ludwig@uk-sh.de). The deadline to submit your application is January 20, 2011. Applications failing these requirements will not be considered. Selected applicants will be invited to participate in a 2- day interview in Lübeck (3.-4.02.2011); partial reimbursement for travel expenses will be provided. Successful candidates will begin to work in Lübeck on April 1, 2011.
