Department of Oncology-Pathology
Research Group Leonard Girnita
Last date for applications: December 27 2010
The successful candidate will work within an international and multidisciplinary research environment. All research is performed as part of a team and results discussed in regular group meetings. The research group focuses on signaling pathways dysregulated in cancer, in particular in clarifying the role of the coross-talk between G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) and tyrosine kinase receptors (RTK). Techniques to be used include cell culture, western transfer analysis, confocal microscopy and BRET/FRET analysis to identify protein interactions. For more information:

The PhD student will study signaling pathways and their implication in the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of human cancers. They will be expected to learn and apply various laboratory techniques and evaluate these results based on a good working knowledge of current literature. Full support will be given in technique training although high levels of self motivation and enthusiasm to learn will be expected.
The successful applicant will enter a 3-6 month research preparatory course with the possibility to apply for admission to the 4 year PhD program. The lab is situated within the Cancer Centrum Karolinska at the Department of Oncology-Pathology (www.ki.se/). For employment as a PhD student it is required that the application for admission be accepted. Information about the PhD studies, admission requirements and admission rules can be found at http://ki.se/ki/jsp/polopoly.jsp?l=en&d=270

The PhD program is full time for 4 years and consists of full time project work with taught courses alongside.
Applications are welcomed from talented students with a good degree in a medical, biomedical or related subject. Earlier experience with techniques in cell culture, western transfer analysis or good working knowledge in other common laboratory Applications are welcomed from talented students with a good degree in a medical, biomedical or related subject. Earlier experience with techniques in cell culture, western transfer analysis or good working knowledge in other common laboratory techniques will be considered an advantage. Good spoken and written English is essential and is a requirement for admittance to the PhD program. The demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and a high standard of spoken and written communication should be identifiable from information given in the CV.
