PostDoc in Stem Cell Biology

The Helmholtz-Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Department for Stem Cell Biology and Cellular Engineering, RWTH Aachen University Medical School
is offering a position for a Scientist (Postdoc) starting at February 1st 2011.
The work will be embedded in the project “StemCellFactory” with the aim of automated isolation, expansion and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells).
Our group addresses molecular characteristics of human adult stem cells. A focus is on mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) which represent precursors for bone, cartilage and adipose tissue. We analyze the impact of biomaterials, surface structure, 3D-scaffolds and culture media. Furthermore, we determine effects of cellular aging (with respect to long-term culture as well as between young and elderly donors). The molecular sequels are analyzed by gene expression profiling and epigenetic analysis of DNA-methylation. Specific aims of our subproject are optimization of reliable cell culture processes for automation of various processes (initial isolation of fibroblasts and MSC, molecular characterization, reprogramming and cloning).
Various methods are applied including isolation and characterization of primary cell preparations, iPS-technology, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy, qRT-PCR, blotting techniques, microarray platforms and sequencing (for mRNA, miRNA and DNA-methylation profiles) as well as functional assays.
We are looking for a motivated and ambitious scientist with a strong background in stem cell biology. Experience in the work with iPS would be appreciated.
We offer a highly interactive and well equipped environment in an excellent team of partners, a broad spectrum of methods and a highly relevant topic. Initial employment will be for two and a half years (TV-L E13) with the possibility for extension.
The University RWTH Aachen supports women in science and especially encourages them to apply. Handicapped applicants with equal qualifications will be preferred.
Your application should include a cover letter, CV and copies of the most important certificates. It can be send by mail or by e-mail. We are looking forward to your application!
