PhD Studentships

The Department of Biochemistry in collaboration with departments in the Medical Sciences and Mathematical, Life and Physical Sciences offer PhD studentships for research in wide ranging areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedicine, biophysics and computational biochemistry. In your application for admission to a programme of study, you must indicate which studentship(s) you wish to be considered for. Alternatively, candidates may bring their own scholarships or sponsorships to support their studies, and will need to provide relevant information on their aplication for admission.

Applications for admission received by the closing date of a scholarship will be considered if the candidate meets the scholarship academic, nationality and residence eligibility criteria.

BBSRC Doctoral Training Grant Studentships (Fees and Living Allowance) for research under the remit of the BBSRC ‘Molecular Biochemistry and Chemical Biology’. UK and other EU nationals who have resided in the UK for at least 3 years by the 1st of September if starting their PhD on 1.10.2011 are eligible to apply for full funding. Other EU candidates are eligible for fees-only studentships, and are invited to also apply for the Scatcherd Scholarship and University College War Memorial scholarships and any other scholarships of the Univeristy or Colleges that might complement a fees-only studentship.

Clarendon Fund Scholarships. We strongly encourage non-EU candidates to indicate an interest in these and any other scholarships of the Univeristy or Colleges for which they are eligible.

Studentships awarded by the Cancer Research Centre via the Gray Institute to support doctoral studies in several departments, including Biochemistry.

Studentships awarded by Doctoral Training Centres (DTC). Applications for studentships and admission must be made directly to the respective doctoral training centre. Successful candidates will follow a specialized training programme and have opportunites to choose areas of research in Biochemistry and other departments.
